Be the Dumbest Person in the Room

You don’t know everything. No one does. Hard work alone won’t get you to the next level—strategic learning and networking will.

Want to succeed faster?

Stop being the smartest person in the room.

Instead, put yourself in rooms where others know more, have achieved more, and can push you further.

Why This Works

You don’t know everything. No one does. Hard work alone won’t get you to the next level—strategic learning and networking will.

Surround yourself with people ahead of you in business, wealth, health, and life. Their knowledge will fast-track your success.

Science backs this up. The Dunning-Kruger Effect describes that higher competency is closely associated with recognizing how much you don’t know, while lower competence individuals often overestimate their abilities.

A 2016 study in The Journal of Positive Psychology found that people with higher intellectual humility—acknowledging their limitations—are better at problem-solving, decision-making, adapting, and collaborating well with others.

Do you want to be competent? Better at problem-solving and making decisions? You must surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. Always.

I learned this firsthand. Early in my career, I tried to figure everything out on my own. I worked long hours, thinking sheer effort would get me there. But when I finally invested in a mastermind group, everything changed.

I gained insights, strategies, and connections I would never have found alone. My success accelerated because I was learning from those who had already walked the path.

How to Apply It

  1. Join high-level groups—masterminds, coaching programs, and professional networks.
  2. Be willing to invest—time and money into learning from those ahead of you.
  3. Ask better questions—absorb insights, take action, and level up.
  4. Be coachable—drop the ego and learn from those who’ve already done it.

Make the Right Investments

I invest six figures annually in personal growth because it accelerates success. I didn’t start there—I started small and scaled up. The more I invested, the faster I grew.

This isn’t just true for me.

Studies on mentorship and networking show that people who engage with those more experienced than themselves earn, on average, $15,000 to $30,000 more per year than those who don’t. Exposure to high-achieving peers significantly improves personal success outcomes (National Bureau of Economic Research).

One of the best decisions I ever made was joining a high-level mastermind. It wasn’t cheap, but within months, the return on investment was undeniable—not just in financial terms, but in mindset shifts and personal development.

Becoming a better leader and person is where the real leverage comes from in life. It’s not always about doing great things. It’s who you become in life, and I can’t become a better person unless I put myself around other people I can learn from.

Take Action Now

  1. Find and join a group where you’re not the expert.
  2. Seek mentorship and guidance from those ahead of you.
  3. Implement what you learn—knowledge without action is useless.

The fastest way to grow is to put yourself in the right rooms. Ready to step up?

Are You Connecting With Your Patients?

As consumers, we connect with brands that appeal to us aesthetically, philosophically, or otherwise, and that is typically the result of marketing. Beyond the initial impression marketing makes, though, most of us want to feel something deeper before pulling the trigger, especially when a decision will impact our health and well-being. That’s why marketing alone isn’t enough for dental practices seeking to attract high-quality patients.
