Who We Are

The Dental Editorial (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent publication covering the business, science, and policy of dentistry. Our website address is https://thedentaleditorial.com.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our site or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using this site, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Newsletter subscriptions. When you sign up for The Editorial Newsletter, we collect the information you enter in the signup form — typically your name and email address. Our newsletter is administered through Keap, a third-party email marketing platform, and the information you submit is stored on their systems.

Correspondence. If you contact us through our contact form or reply to one of our emails, we receive the information you choose to share, including your name, email address, and the contents of your message.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our site, we and our analytics providers automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • IP address and general geographic location (city or region level)
  • Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
  • Pages viewed, time spent on pages, and links clicked
  • The referring website or search term that brought you to our site
  • Date and time of your visit

This information is aggregated and used to understand how readers use the site. We do not attempt to use it to identify individual visitors.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them for the following purposes:

Essential cookies. Required for the site to function properly, including basic security and load balancing.

Preference cookies. Remember settings you have chosen, such as display options.

Analytics cookies. Set by Google Analytics to help us measure traffic and understand reader behavior. See below.

Administrative cookies. If you are a registered contributor or administrator and log in to the site, we set cookies to maintain your session and save your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days; screen option cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie stores the post ID of the article you edited and expires after one day. These cookies contain no personal data beyond what is needed to operate the editorial system.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site function. Most browsers also offer a “Do Not Track” setting; because there is no consistent industry standard for how sites should respond to these signals, our site does not currently respond to them.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our site. Google Analytics places cookies on your device and collects information such as your IP address, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This information is processed by Google in accordance with its own privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Email and Newsletter Communications

If you subscribe to The Editorial Newsletter, we use your email address to send you articles, industry news, and occasional announcements about our publication and its contributors.

Our email platform records standard engagement metrics, including whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this to gauge which topics resonate with readers and to improve what we send.

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You may opt out at any time, and we will stop sending marketing emails promptly. We may still contact you regarding a specific request you have made of us.

Media and Images

If you upload images to the site as a contributor, please avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download images and extract any location data they contain.
